pokémon is one of those franchises that feels sort of obvious from the jump. it feels like everybody i know ranges from passingly familiar to obsessed with the IP. it's the highest-grossing media franchise of all time, beating mickey mouse, winnie the pooh, and probably jesus christ, if we're being honest. show a child a picture of pikachu and a biblical painting and they're picking pikachu every time.
rumiko takahashi made me a gay genderfucked furry and i think that's overall pretty cool. one of the most infuential mangaka on my sense of comedy, taste in romance, and my personal artstyle, i can't emphasize how much these remade anime have been re-activating the ancient evil within me. what an icon, a massive influence on the manga scene as a whole.
